Whenever the month of March rolls in, Spring is automatically on everyone's mind and we can't help but feel excited with the warmer weather, the beautiful greens and the flowers in bloom. And Santa Barbara's Spring season is definitely one to look forward to. With many events and activities happening in March, you've got a full month ahead! Plan your month with our March 2019 events calendar of the best activities, including free things to do, festivals and our favorite concerts.

World of Pinot Noir

March 1 - 2, 2019
The Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara, 8301 Hollister Avenue, Santa Barbara, CA 

​​​​​​​Held at the Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara, the 2019 World of Pinot Noir will feature more than 250 wineries from around the globe, expert-led seminars, pairing dinners prepared by renowned chefs and a whole host of Pinot Noir parties. 

Art From Scrap Workshops

March 2, 2019 (recurring every Saturday)
Art From Scrap, 302 East Cota Street, Santa Barbara, CA 93106-1120 

​​​​​​​The Art From Scrap CreatorLab comes alive with a themed workshop every Saturday from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Filled with hundreds of reuse materials, our CreatorLab is sure to ignite your imagination! Children 6 years and up can stay and have fun while their parents go shopping at the Saturday Farmer’s Market – just one block away. Workshops are taught by visiting Guest Artists and AFS Staff Members. This is a perfect way to spend a morning – for artists of all ages and abilities. Cost: $8.00 per person. 

Santa Barbara Restaurant Week

The second annual Santa Barbara Restaurant Week is your chance to experience the best of Santa Barbara’s food scene at a fraction of the cost. Presented by Santa Barbara Uncorked, LLC and sponsored by Jordano’s Foodservice and Pacific Beverage Company, Santa Barbara Restaurant Week 2019 is a 10-day event designed to showcase the culinary delights of Santa Barbara crafted by the area’s finest eating establishments. 

Great Naturalists

March 1 - May 5, 2019

​​​​​​​The exhibit profiles the lives of great naturalists who collected, described, and classified living things through their own observations and discoveries in nature. These naturalists were important figures in the early years of natural history as it changed from a mainly amateur pursuit in the 1600s to today’s specialized scientific profession.

Jazz at The Lobero Theatre

Son of jazz guitarist John “Bucky” Pizzarelli, guitarist and singer John Pizzarelli is one of the hottest acts in jazz today. With his hip, swinging and sophisticated style, John has cultivated a winning international career by singing classic standards, late-night ballads, and by playing sublime and inventive guitar. 

The Joffrey Ballet

​​​​​​​Among America’s premier ballet companies, Chicago-based Joffrey Ballet returns with two spellbinding nights of cutting-edge programs featuring one of Balanchine’s earliest experimental works, two pieces by modern ballet master Nicolas Blanc, the unique cinematic vision of Swedish choreographer Alexander Ekman, contemporary ballet darling Justin Peck with a work set to a score by Philip Glass, and Annabelle Lopez Ochoa’s spellbinding depiction of a turbulent cloud formation. These tour-de-force, wide-ranging programs display the inestimable skill of The Joffrey Ballet’s dancers, classically trained to the highest standards, and the company’s unique, inclusive perspective on dance. 

Santa Barbara Jewish Film Festvival

March 6 - 11, 2019

​​​​​​​The Santa Barbara Jewish Film Festival will bring the community together to experience the power of exceptional films from around the world on themes of Jewish culture and identity. Organized by the Jewish Federation of Greater Santa Barbara, this year’s Festival will include five days of high quality, unique films. The Festival will showcase a wide range of documentaries, dramas, comedies, and shorts by American, European, and Israeli filmmakers. 

Art Matters Lecture

​​​​​​​3D: Double Vision (on view at LACMA through March 31, 2019) is the first American exhibition to survey a full range of artworks, dating from 1838 to the present, that produce the illusion of three dimensions. While 3D may seem to have a peripheral relationship to mainstream culture and traditional art history—catching our attention at “peak” moments and then disappearing again into obscurity—in fact it forms a continuous thread across modernity, taking many forms from the Industrial Revolution to today. This talk will explore the history of 3D with examples from the realms of art, science, and popular culture. 

Harry Potter Trivia Night

Santa Barbara Youth Symphony Concert

​​​​​​​Heralded as, “a prestigious group of young, talented musicians” by Santa Barbara Seasons magazine, the Santa Barbara Youth Symphony brings together 70-80 of the top musicians, ages 12-18, from Santa Barbara and Ventura counties to perform works across the orchestral repertoire. 

Princess Day/Save The Frogs at The Santa Barbara Zoo

There’s no better time than springtime to honor the world’s many and varied frogs and amphibians, and meet Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel, and other princesses in person, too. Learn how zoos and aquariums are working to save the world’s threatened amphibians, and enjoy frog-inspired crafts, games, and special animal appearances. All costumed princesses welcome – as are knights, pirates, and cowboys.

The 74th Annual Santa Barbara International Orchid Show

​​​​​​​The Only Cash Tribute Band pays homage to Johnny Cash, celebrating the life and music of the Man in Black with strong conviction and stunning accuracy. The show is a fun, classy and toe-tapping trip down memory lane honoring Johnny Cash’s life and music, and the boom-chicka-boom sound of his signature backing band, the Tennessee Three.
