This summer, enjoy a benefit concert and pop-up exhibition of Independence Day memories from the Santa Barbara News-Press.

As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary celebration this summer, head to the Santa Barbara Historical Museum for a chance to relive the sights and sounds of summers past, featuring a special concert by the Doublewide Kings, and pop-up photo exhibition of treasured Independence Day memories from our recently preserved Santa Barbara News-Press Collection.

This is a wonderful opportunity to stand for community, history and great music.

With electrifying performances and a signature twist on songs by The Allman Brothers Band, Van Morrison, Neil Young, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Crosby, Stills & Nash, The Rolling Stones, and Grateful Dead, the Doublewide Kings capture the enduring spirit of rock and roll. Their love for acoustic roots and Americana traditions adds a heartfelt dimension, celebrating the music that has shaped generations.

Santa Barbara has long celebrated Independence Day with a style all its own. From fireworks lighting up the harbor and parades along State Street to beach barbecues, sparklers, and gatherings at “The Pits,” these traditions captured the sun-soaked spirit, community pride, and all-American energy that made Santa Barbara summers unforgettable.

Concerts in the Park: The New Vibe

Each week, Concerts in the Park presents a diverse lineup of talented artists, showcasing an array of genres to cater to different musical tastes. From lively jazz ensembles to soulful blues bands, from energetic rock groups to mellow acoustic performers, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Bring your picnic blanket, pack a delicious spread of your favorite snacks and beverages, and settle in for an evening of musical bliss.

Blankets and chairs may be set out once set up is completed, usually between 10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

Outside food and drinks are allowed.

Alcohol is prohibited.

All public parks are smoke/vape free.

Apples to Zucchini Cooking School

In this class, we’ll transform peak-season produce into flavorful, shelf-stable ferments that can be enjoyed for months to come; as well as explore the digestion and gut health benefits of lactofermentation. You’ll learn the fundamentals of safely processing and preserving produce at home, and make several varieties of kraut (with some jars to take home). We’ll also prepare and share Choucroute Garnie (“dressed sauerkraut”), a hearty and comforting dish from the Alsace region of France, because no cooking class is complete without a delicious meal!

This Summer join Art Spot on Wheels for a week of fun, creativity, and artistic expression! This Summer they will be creating paintings, drawings, sculptures, decoupage pieces, weavings, clay works and more!

Enjoy 2 or more guided paintings each week and close with an open house art show featuring all the young artist’s work from that week. There is much to look forward to this Summer with new projects and paintings, exploring with watercolors, pastels and acrylic paints as well as the occasional walking field trip to gather inspiration.

Summer camp with Art Spot is an experience to remember! Geared toward children ages 7-13, they provide space and guidance for kids to freely create and learn different skills in various mediums while building self-confidence.

As always all materials provided, they just ask that your child bring a sack lunch and water bottle.

26th Annual “Woodies at the Beach”
