So what is living in this special California town really like?
Where is Montecito, CA?
Many outside of the area aren't quite sure where Montecito is. Most think it is a neighborhood within Santa Barbara, but the truth is that Montecito is what is known as an unincorporated town. Unincorporated town might sound odd, but all it really means is that the county governs the town directly rather than a city council and mayor. Santa Barbara County is the governing body, which on a day-to-day basis really doesn't make a huge difference to residents. Property taxes are levied by the county rather than the city, but this is not uncommon. Some other unincorporated communities or towns include Paradise, Nevada, which is the actual location of the famous Las Vegas Strip, and Bethesda, Maryland, which is home to the National Institute of Health and Walter Reed Medical Center.
Montecito is about a 15 minute drive from the Santa Barbara airport, which is a major airport that has direct flights from other major cities like Chicago, New York and San Francisco. So if you have family or friends visit you in Montecito it is only a short Uber trip away.
