Atelier offers guests an evening of intimate, intriguing, occasionally irreverent interactions with art and artists in the Museum’s galleries. Inspired by the exhibition You Are Going On A Trip, this event takes the notion of travel and escape (mental or physical) and invites guests to “Get out of town” for a surreal summer vacation. Like all good experiences on the road, this one has motion, music, snacks, a little daydreaming, and a great companion: art. Includes hors d’oeuvres, wines, and signature cocktails. Purchase tickets at the Museum Visitor Services desks or online at tickets.sbma.net.

3. Santa Barbara Greek Festival

When:       July 29, 2017 - July 30, 2017

Time:         11:00 AM - 7:00 PM

Where:     600 West Junipero St., Santa Barbara, CA 93105

The festival evokes the sights, sounds and tastes that define the traditional Greek way of life. Stroll through Santa Barbara’s beautiful Oak Park, and experience the simple pleasures of life in a Greek village. Dozens of volunteers enthusiastically staff their booths, creating a convivial, welcoming atmosphere. Festival-goers return year after year for the food. Delectable festival favorites like gyros and moussaka. And no Greek village would be complete without homemade pastries from YiaYia’s traditional recipes: baklava, melomakarona, and kataifi are just a few of the sweet treats to delight you.

Listen to the distinctive sounds of the bouzouki and other exotic instruments played by authentic Greek musicians who perform traditional and popular songs. Delight in the beauty of the elaborate costumes worn by performers as they share their carefully practiced steps and intricate dances with the enthusiastic audience. Take advantage of a free Greek dance lesson, and enjoy participating in the same dances you would perform in the traditional villages of Greece. Dance the afternoon away, eat a little (or a lot), shop in the Greek marketplace, relax and enjoy yourself under the oaks in the warm embrace of the best Greek culture has to offer.

So maybe you can’t make it all the way to Greece this year. The Santa Barbara Greek Festival is the next best thing to being there!

Grammy nominated guitarist, singer and songwriter Bill Kirchen is one of the fortunate few who can step on any stage, play those trademark licks which drove the seminal Commander Cody classic Hot Rod Lincoln into the Top Ten nationwide, and elicit instant recognition. Named a “Titan of the Telecaster” by Guitar Player Magazine, he celebrates a musical tradition that embraces rock ‘n’ roll, blues and bluegrass, Texas Western swing and California honkytonk. Nick Lowe describes Bill as “… a devastating culmination of the elegant and funky… a really sensational musician, with enormous depth.”

Jimmie Dale Gilmore has been writing and playing songs for more than 50 years. His music eludes categorization, blending elements of folk, rock, country, blues and bluegrass. His recordings have earned three Grammy nominations in both Contemporary Folk and Traditional Folk categories and he was named Country Artist of the Year three years running by Rolling Stone Magazine. His high and lonesome vocal style, coupled with sometimes mystical and poetic lyrics, has led to musical brandings such as Sagebrush Soul, Zen Country and Western Beat. Along with Joe Ely and Butch Hancock, Gilmore’s legendary band The Flatlanders has been credited as fathers of the Alt-country movement.
